The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has conferred its Merit Award for Nation Building on the National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Grace Morenike Henry, in recognition of her contributions to humanitarian service and support for military veterans and their families.
The award presentation and induction into the NANS Hall of Fame took place at the Nigerian Legion Headquarters in Abuja, where the NANS Vice President, Mohammed Abdulrazaq, described Ms Henry as a leader committed to integrity, public service, and national development.
According to Abdulrazaq, the Nigerian Legion Chairman has distinguished herself through initiatives focused on the welfare of veterans, widows, and families of fallen heroes, particularly through vocational training, empowerment programmes, and humanitarian interventions.
“Her selfless service and remarkable contributions to humanitarian development have brought honour to the Nigerian Legion and positively impacted the nation,” he said.
Responding, Ms Henry expressed appreciation to the leadership of NANS for the honour, describing her induction into the Hall of Fame as a significant recognition of her service to humanity and national development.
She also advised Nigerian students to shun negative influences and social vices, warning that harmful associations and conversations could undermine good character and responsible behaviour.
The Legion Chairman urged students to remain focused, uphold integrity, and contribute positively to society.
Members of the NANS delegation present at the event included the National Liaison Officer, Victor Obodo; Ahmadu Bello University Zaria representative, Amana Frank; National Secretary, Paul Gajik; and Deputy National Secretary, Danjuma Bulus Akolo.
Meanwhile, Ms Henry also empowered the widow of late Colonel Godfrey Okechukwu Nebo with an industrial grinding machine and cash support as part of the Legion’s widows’ empowerment initiative.
The items were presented to Mrs Nebo at the Legion Headquarters in Abuja by the Secretary General of the Nigerian Legion, Isah Yakubu, alongside the Provost of Headquarters Nigerian Legion, Toye Kudehinbu, on behalf of the National Chairman.
The Nigerian Legion said the intervention formed part of ongoing efforts aimed at improving the livelihoods of widows of fallen Nigerian Armed Forces personnel.
