The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, has reiterated the importance of physical and mental fitness in enhancing operational readiness and national security, as officers and ratings of the Nigerian Navy participated in the 2025 Second Quarter Route March held at the Naval Unit, Admiralty Estate, Abuja.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the CNS, Rear Admiral Julius Nwagu emphasized that the route march was organized not only as a show of force, but also to promote mental alertness, physical fitness, esprit de corps, and relaxation among personnel.
“The route march is designed to keep our personnel combat-ready, physically and mentally equipped to meet the evolving security dynamics of our nation,This exercise reinforces our preparedness for duties both ashore and at sea” the CNS stated.
Vice Admiral Ogalla noted that the Nigerian Navy played a critical role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain and remains a key contributor to the Gulf of Guinea security framework, in addition to supporting internal security operations across the country.
Highlighting recent operational milestones, the CNS mentioned the successful completion of Operation OBANGAME EXPRESS, a multinational maritime security exercise, which strengthened partnerships with regional and global stakeholders to enhance maritime domain awareness across Africa’s coastal states.
He charged personnel to remain professional, law-abiding, and committed to their duties, cautioning against acts capable of bringing the service into disrepute.
“The Nigerian Navy will continue to support you with the tools and resources necessary to function optimally. I urge you to remain dedicated, loyal to democracy, and supportive of constituted authority,” he said.
Rear Admiral Nwagu, who represented the CNS at the event, applauded all participants for their enthusiasm and resilience during the march, describing their performance as a testament to their operational readiness.
“Bravo Zulu to all personnel who participated in this march. Your performance reflects the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to national peace and security,” he remarked, while extending appreciation to sister security agencies, media representatives, and all who contributed to the success of the event.
He declared the 2025 Second Quarter Route March officially closed and wished all attendees safe travels and a restful weekend.
“Keep the flag flying. Onward together. God bless you all,” he concluded.
