The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has commenced a strategic initiative to deploy trained Corps members for National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment across all wards in Nigeria.
This initiative is a key component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at ensuring that all Nigerians and legal residents are enrolled and issued the NIN within the shortest possible time.
With over 120 million Nigerians and legal residents already captured in the national identity database, the new Ward Enrolment Strategy is designed to reach previously inaccessible and underserved areas, bringing NIN services closer to the grassroots.
The selected NYSC members are currently undergoing intensive training by NIMC experts, preparing them for deployment to the 8,809 political wards across the federation. The move is expected to significantly increase NIN registration coverage, particularly for children under 16 years, who often face barriers to registration due to distance or lack of parental awareness.
In a statement, the Director General/CEO of NIMC, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, praised President Tinubu for his continuous support of the Commission’s mandate, described the initiative as a milestone in expanding identity access and accelerating digital inclusion.
She also commended the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, and the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, for their commitment to empowering young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“This partnership harnesses the energy and reach of our youth to fulfill a critical national need building a robust and inclusive digital identity ecosystem that supports social inclusion, economic growth, and national security,” Dr. Coker-Odusote stated.
Citizens, particularly parents and guardians, are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to enrol their children and dependents once the deployment begins in their respective wards.
