The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false a viral social media report alleging an armed attack on the residence of Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral.
The denial was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division. Osoba described the report, which circulated widely on Facebook, as misleading and unfounded, stressed that no such incident occurred anywhere in Sokoto State.
He further clarified that Bishop Kukah, who heads the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, remains safe and is actively carrying out his Easter engagements without disruption.
Osoba added that troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, have put in place robust measures to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration, maintaining vigilance to safeguard lives and property across their area of responsibility.
