The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed a tactical team of officers to rescue passengers following the derailment of a Kaduna-bound train carrying 618 people along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.
The incident occurred at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations. Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who personally visited the accident scene alongside other security stakeholders, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as civilian safety during emergencies.
In a statement signed by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, Prof. Audi emphasized that beyond its statutory mandate, the NSCDC is fully committed to disaster response and emergency rescue operations. He also urged stakeholders to intensify efforts to ensure the Abuja-Kaduna corridor remained safe and accident-free.
The NSCDC boss commended the efforts of the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, stressed that anyone found sabotaging railway installations would be brought to justice.
