As the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) marked its 70th anniversary, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has extended heartfelt congratulations to past and present Presidents of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) who were honoured with a distinguished award for their exceptional contributions to advancing women in journalism.
The NUJ @ 70 celebration, held in grand style, brought together veterans and serving professionals across the media landscape to celebrate milestones and honour trailblazers. Among those honoured were Dr. Brenda Akpan, Mrs. Hannatu, Chief Moji Makanjuola, Pastor Kande Daniel, Rotarian Evelyn Onyilo, Hon. Toro Oladapo, Hajia Fatima Abdulkareem, Hon. Asabe Baba Nahaya, Yeye Ifeyinwa Omowole, Chief Ladi Bala, and Hajia Aisha Ibrahim Bura.
These iconic media leaders were recognized for their pioneering roles in promoting gender equity, inspiring excellence among female journalists, and nurturing a more inclusive and representative media industry.
In a personally signed statement, Comrade Grace Ike described the recognition as timely and well-deserved, noting that the honourees have not only shaped the narrative of journalism in Nigeria but have also inspired the next generation of women to pursue and excel in the field.
She encouraged the awardees to continue pushing boundaries, mentoring upcoming professionals, and using their platforms to advocate for greater inclusion and participation of women in media leadership.
Comrade Grace Ike also commended the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, and the first female Deputy National President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, for their visionary leadership and efforts in making the NUJ @ 70 celebration memorable and impactful.
“The recognition given to NAWOJ leaders is a reflection of their tireless efforts, passion, and commitment to transforming journalism and empowering women.
“This milestone is not just about celebration but also about acknowledging the progress we have made as a union and the roles these great women played in it,” Ike stated.
