The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has been conferred with the prestigious Fellow of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
The certificate of investiture was presented to General Ahmed by the Director General of the Centre, Major General Garba Ayodeji Wahab (rtd), at a ceremony held at the Centre.
Speaking at a lecture that preceded the investiture, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, represented by Major General Ayoola Aboaba, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to establishing measures and mechanisms to combat health security challenges in Nigeria. He highlighted the importance of effective population data in building a robust national health infrastructure that would strengthen healthcare systems, particularly during health emergencies.
“We must ensure the right health infrastructure is in place. It is only when you have the database of the population that you can adequately plan for health infrastructure,” Oluyede stated.
In his remarks after receiving the fellowship, Brigadier General YD Ahmed expressed his appreciation to the management of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre for the honour. He recalled his previous service as a Deputy Director at the Centre and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to national development.
The Guest Speaker, Dr. Kumshida Yakubu Balami, a public health expert and epidemiologist, delivered a lecture on “Public Health and National Security in Nigeria.” She stressed that health crises undermine national economic and developmental stability and called for collaborative efforts to identify key health threats, including humanitarian crises and terrorism.
Dr. Balami emphasized that health surveillance is everyone’s responsibility, advocating for proactive measures to strengthen the country’s health security framework.
