A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Abdulsamad Jamiu, has been killed after being caught in crossfire during a military operation to foil an armed robbery attack in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja.

According to a statement from the Headquarters Guards Brigade, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate, when troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group, while on routine night patrol, responded to a distress call from residents reported an ongoing armed robbery attack in the area.

On arrival at the scene, the troops reportedly came under fire from fleeing suspects, resulting in a brief but intense exchange of gunfire as efforts were made to neutralise the threat and restore order.

During the encounter, Mr. Jamiu, who was in the vicinity, was struck by gunfire and killed. Military authorities confirmed that despite immediate efforts by troops to secure the area and provide assistance, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Guards Brigade described the situation as fluid and highly volatile, noting that personnel were engaged in efforts to repel the attackers while preventing further harm to residents.
