The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) to help reduce infant and maternal mortality and address other critical health challenges through safe blood donation.
NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, made this known today when he received the Director General of the National Blood Service Agency, Professor Saleh Yuguda, and his team on a courtesy visit to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
General Ahmed emphasized that the NYSC remained a vital institution for youth and national development, added that its impact since inception cannot be overemphasized.
In his remarks, Professor Yuguda commended the NYSC leadership under Brigadier General Ahmed for allowing the agency access to Orientation Camps to sensitize Corps Members on the importance of voluntary and safe blood donation.
He noted that the NBSA’s mandate is to ensure the availability of safe blood for those in need, adding that the agency currently operate in 17 states across the country. He further requested the NYSC’s support in creating a Community Development Service (CDS) group focused on blood donation, as well as the deployment of Corps Doctors to the agency’s zonal offices to enhance service delivery.
In his response, Brigadier General Ahmed assured that the requests would be given due consideration by the NYSC Management.
