Oyo Speaker hails Gov Makinde’s Hybrid Power Project ,calls it Giant Leap Towards Energy Sufficiency

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has commended the Hybrid Power Plant project recently launched by Governor Seyi Makinde, calling it a “giant leap” in the state’s pursuit of energy sufficiency. Ogundoyin made the remarks after attending the commissioning of the project at the State Government Secretariat in Ibadan.

The Hybrid Power Plant, which combines a 10MW gas-fired power generation system with a 1MW solar power solution, is set to provide stable electricity to critical facilities such as government offices, healthcare centers, schools, and key economic hubs. The project is expected to increase the state’s energy supply by 14%, significantly reducing the power supply gap and empowering local communities.

Ogundoyin emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it is a testament to Governor Makinde’s visionary leadership and commitment to tackling the state’s energy challenges. “This is another significant milestone in the efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde to address the problems of inadequate power supply. It is a giant leap in energy sufficiency, and we are proud to be part of this journey towards a brighter future for our state,” Ogundoyin said.

The first phase of the 11MW Independent Power Project (IPP) will power 12 healthcare facilities, including the Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and the State Hospital Ring Road, as well as the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba. Additionally, the ‘Light-Up Oyo’ project will extend public lighting across a 10km radius, enhancing both security and economic development in the area.

The project is being executed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, with financing and development led by Elektron Energy. Ogundoyin hailed the project as a model for energy innovation in Nigeria, noting its potential to attract investors and spur economic growth in Oyo State.

“This project is a game-changer for Oyo State. It demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions and driving economic growth. We are proud to support this initiative, which will significantly impact the lives of our citizens and help businesses thrive,” Ogundoyin concluded.
