The Minority Leader of the Senate and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Patrick Abba Moro, has declared that Nigerians are happy with the zoning arrangements ratified by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a bold step towards 2027 general elections.
Senator Moro made this known while reacting to the outcome of the PDP NEC meeting held on Monday, 25th August 2025, where critical decisions were adopted to strengthen the unity and preparedness of the party.
Chief among the resolutions was the ratification of the zoning committee’s report, which retained the party’s national chairmanship in the North, while zoning the presidential ticket to the South. Moro noted that the smooth conclusion of the exercise without rancour shows PDP’s readiness to lead Nigeria again.
“With the zoning arrangements carried out successfully, PDP has become the first party to take this bold initiative preparatory to 2027. It is a plus to the party, and Nigerians are happy and excited about it,” he said.
Turning to Benue politics, Senator Moro decried what he described as the high-handedness of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia in handling political differences. He faulted the governor over the resignation of the former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, and his replacement with Alfred Berga Emberga. Moro alleged that the former speaker was forced out simply because he declined to confirm two commissioner-nominees with petitions against them.
According to him, the action of the ex-speaker should be commended, as it demonstrated that the Assembly was not a rubber stamp, but he was instead victimised for standing on the path of democracy.
Commenting on the recently concluded bye-elections across the country, Senator Moro described the exercise as flawed, alleged that it was marred by irregularities and excessive deployment of security forces.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he recalled as a long-time advocate of democracy, to call his Ministers and security agencies to order.
“Nigeria, being the biggest democratic nation in Africa, should lead by example for others to follow,” he stated.
