Gunmen have killed retired Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), David Shikfu Parradang, in Abuja on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Parradang was reportedly abducted in Area 1 after withdrawing cash from a bank before his assailants dispossessed him of the money and later killed him.
The retired immigration chief served the NIS for over 30 years, holding various key positions, including Comptroller General. He was a recipient of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
Security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident and are making efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has witnessed a disturbing surge in criminal activities in recent months, with cases of kidnappings, armed robberies, and other violent crimes on the rise.
Several communities, including Gwagwalada, Lugbe, Bwari, Kuje, and Kwali, have been identified as vulnerable hotspots. The financial burden on victims’ families has been staggering, with ransom payments exceeding N653.7 million between 2021 and 2024.
Authorities have ramped up security measures, including deploying additional personnel and conducting rescue operations. However, residents continue to call for more proactive interventions to curb the escalating insecurity.
