The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received two 100MVA power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina State, marking a major milestone in efforts to strengthen electricity transmission in the North-West.
The transformers were delivered to the TCN Kano Region on Thursday, July 9, 2026, as part of the company’s strategic national grid expansion programme aimed at improving bulk power supply and enhancing transmission infrastructure across the country.
According to TCN, the transformers are critical components for the completion of the Katsina substation project. Once installed, tested and commissioned, they are expected to increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts (MW).
The company said the completion and energisation of the new 330/132/33kV substation will improve the reliability, flexibility and overall efficiency of electricity transmission in Katsina State and neighbouring areas.
It added that the project will also significantly enhance its capacity to evacuate bulk electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and surrounding communities, thereby supporting improved power supply to consumers.
TCN noted that the Katsina substation is one of several transmission projects being implemented nationwide as part of ongoing efforts to expand, modernise and reinforce Nigeria’s transmission network to meet the country’s growing electricity demand.
