The Pioneer Leader of Arewa Summit International, Dr. Bashir Lamido, has dismissed the possibility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu losing his re-election bid in 2027, citing the formidable political figures rallying behind him.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Abuja Expo and Ruhe Global Resources International Education Fair held on Wednesday in Abuja, Lamido emphasized that the support of influential politicians such as former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari, former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and former Delta State Governor James Ibori makes Tinubu’s re-election almost certain.
According to Lamido, the inability of the opposition to form a united front further strengthens Tinubu’s chances. He questioned whether major opposition parties—the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP)—could resolve their internal crises and agree on a common candidate.
“When you talk about the possibility of the opposition coalition taking power, you must ask: Can they even agree? The PDP and LP are plagued by internal wrangling, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) lacks the influence to lead a coalition,” Lamido argued.
He further cast doubt on the ability of opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Yemi Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi, and Bukola Saraki to set aside their individual ambitions for a single candidate.
“But Tinubu is strategic,” he continued. “At a time when many believed Yari, Kalu, and Ibori would align with the opposition, the president has successfully closed ranks with them. Even Ganduje, whom El-Rufai allegedly tried to push out with an ambassadorial appointment, remains a strong ally. These men are presidential materials in their own right, yet they have all endorsed Tinubu. With such backing, he cannot lose.”
Lamido also highlighted the proactive efforts of Tinubu’s allies in mobilizing grassroots support across different regions. “Yari is empowering people in the North, Kalu is doing the same in the South and extending his influence beyond. They all meet with the president regularly, ensuring direction and purpose in securing victory,” he noted.
While acknowledging the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, Lamido defended Tinubu’s reforms, stating that the current hardships are necessary for long-term stability. “Yes, there is hardship, but economic recovery takes time. In the long run, the economy will be more robust and stable,” he assured.
With the 2027 election drawing closer, Lamido’s remarks add to the ongoing political discourse on Tinubu’s re-election prospects and the readiness of the opposition to mount a credible challenge.
