Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Magumeri in Borno State, neutralising scores of insurgents and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists launched the attack in the early hours of May 7, 2026, attempting to infiltrate the military base under poor visibility conditions.
The statement noted that although the terrorists recorded minor breaches in an isolated section of the camp, troops fought gallantly and decisively contained the assault, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers.
“Further exploitation of the general area revealed extensive blood trails, body drags and the recovery of terrorist corpses, confirming the heavy casualties inflicted on the attackers during the failed assault,” the statement said.
Troops also recovered several weapons and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, including PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles, and magazines.
The military, however, disclosed that two soldiers lost their lives during the encounter, while an officer and other wounded personnel are currently receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition.
It added that some equipment and temporary structures within the camp were damaged by fire during the intense exchange of gunfire.
The statement further disclosed that troops are conducting follow-up exploitation operations in the area to consolidate gains recorded from the encounter and determine the full extent of damage inflicted on the terrorists.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their resilience and bravery, urging them to sustain the operational tempo in ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of action across the North-East theatre.
