The Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA) has called on Nigerians to embrace positive thinking, patriotism and collective responsibility as essential tools for national growth and development.
The association made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of its 2026 Annual National Reunion held between May 8 and May 10 at Obafemi Awolowo University.
The conference, themed “The Potential within Nigeria: Positive Mindset and Communication for Success,” featured a special Jumat service, courtesy visit to the university management, networking dinner, reunion lecture, medical outreach and novelty football match.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, delivered the reunion lecture, while the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Matrix Energy Group, Abdulkabir Adisa Aliu, chaired the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Adebayo Simeon Bamire, hosted the conference, which was also attended by representatives of the Osun State Government and the institution’s Pro-Chancellor, Adejare Bello.
As part of its welfare initiatives, the association presented 140 scholarships worth N14.6 million to students of the institution. UNIFEMGA disclosed that since the inception of the scholarship programme in the 2009/2010 academic session, it has disbursed over N103.4 million to 1,148 students.
The association also launched a N200 million endowment fund for widows and orphans of its members.
In its communiqué signed by the National President, Mohamed Buari, and National Secretary, Sefiu Ikudaisi, the group observed that Nigeria possesses enormous human and material resources capable of transforming the nation if citizens adopt the right mindset and collective responsibility.
UNIFEMGA expressed concern over negative narratives, disunity, brain drain, obsolete equipment, disruptions in academic calendars and outdated curricula affecting tertiary institutions across the country.
The association urged government at all levels to address infrastructural challenges, improve electricity supply, invest in human capital development and create employment opportunities for unemployed youths.
It also called for stronger collaboration between universities and the private sector to sustain research and innovation, while encouraging Nigerians, especially youths, to remain hopeful and focus on solutions that would move the nation forward.
The association concluded that a positive mindset remains the foundation for building a great nation and urged citizens to promote peace, discipline, productivity and unity for Nigeria’s overall development.
