Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has revealed that the developmental strides of Governor Monday Okpebholo motivated his decision to leave the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Imasuen, who was elected to the 10th Senate under the LP platform, officially defected to the ruling APC during Wednesday’s plenary. His resignation from the Labour Party was read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who welcomed him to the APC and assured him that his contributions would be valued.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the announcement, Senator Imasuen said the achievements of Governor Okpebholo in Edo State inspired his move, described the governor as a progressive leader committed to the betterment of the people.
“To be honest with you, that’s a major reason,” Imasuen said. “Governor Okpebholo and I were sworn in the same day. We worked closely when he was in the Senate, and now that he is the Executive Governor, I have seen the kind of work he’s done in such a short time. It’s an incentive for me to join him in building a better Edo.”
He emphasized that the interest of the people remains his top priority, and joining forces with the governor under the APC would ensure more meaningful development.
“My focus is to represent my people more effectively. Joining the APC has made decision-making and collaboration easier, and I’m confident this will help deliver more to my constituents,” he added.
