Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has said that security remain a top priority of his administration because it will facilitate investment.
Engineer Sule stated this while hosting the newly posted Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Ibrahim Maiyaki Bazama, who was on a courtesy call at the Government House, on Friday.
According to the Governor, his administration was taking the matter of security seriously because of its policy thrust towards wooing private investors to come and do business in the state.
“We had an investment summit recently. We take the area of security very seriously because it’s the only way we can engage most of our unemployed youths,” he said.
Engineer Sule added that, it’s only through such investments that Nasarawa State can become economically buoyant.
He however emphasized that, this can only be achieved if the state is secured.
The Governor sought for the cooperation of the FRSC, stressed that the agency has much to do in the state in terms of creating a secured environment.
“Look at what you have just done with the motorcycles. You probably underrated what you have done but this is one area that we will have to work together for our own security,” he stated.
The Governor also used the opportunity of the visit to call on the FRSC Sector Commander, to address the prevalent abuse of government vehicle number plates in the state.
“I think the people just go and get the plates from only God knows where. We are not the ones issuing them.
He urged the FRSC henceforth to take appropriate action on the menace, as according to him, criminals may take advantage of the prevalence of the government number plates to commit their crimes.
Engineer Sule assured the FRSC commandant that his administration will assist the agency by creating enabling environment for them to operate effectively.
Earlier, the FRSC Sector Commandant, Ibrahim Maiyaki Bazama, said his agency rendered services that has direct bearing and benefits to the people of the state.
Bazama said however that the FRSC cannot succeed in its assignment without the support of the state government.
He therefore appreciated the Governor for what his administration for the continuous support given to the FRSC in the state.
Bazama expressed appreciation that though the agency have prototype offices across the country, the office given to the FRSC by the Nasarawa State Government remained the best in the country.
While stating his commitment to unfold various programmes with a view to making Nasarawa State better, the FRSC commandant said already, the agency is succeeding in the enforcement of the use of crash helmet by motorcyclists.
He also disclosed that, through the use of intelligence and with the support of the state board of internal revenue service, the FRSC was able to nib the illegal sales of number plates by motorcycle dealers.
