GOV. DAVE UMAHI: Tirades Of Lord Of The Manor Against Ohanaeze By Law Mefor

When Lord Aton, the British historian, stated that ‘Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely’ he had some leaders like Governor Dave Umahi in mind. The governor of Ebonyi State reminds one of the Lord of the Manor, the English lord who enjoyed manorial rights (the rights to establish and occupy a residence, known as the manor house and demesne) as well as seigniory, the right to grant or draw benefit from the remainder; the ancient Russian Czar. That is how Governor Umahi perceives himself as Governor of Ebonyi and…

CAN, Religion and NASS leadership By Ismail Omipidan

I don’t like introducing religion into issues that are purely political and which require only political solution to get them resolved. Reason: Most people who argue purely from religious point of view are too emotional and sometimes irrational. Thus, their arguments, most often become illogical. But I feel compelled to make this intervention because even some journalists who have reported the National Assembly over the years and who should know better appear to have failed in their primary responsibility of providing the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) with the correct…

The Kashim Shettima I know By Ismail Omipidan

He was never a member of the defunct Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, or Northern Elements Progressive Union, NEPU. But his ideas about politics and governance can be squarely located in the Talakawa ideals and principles of politics and governance. He has consistently proved to be a detribalised and a compassionate leader.   When he lost his Police Orderly in 2018, he not only picked the new one from the same state, Bauchi, where the late one hailed from, he went for a Christian against the wish of members of his…

It Must Be a Muslim-Muslim Prank! By Olaleye Olawale

First, they said if a southerner won the APC ticket, given the choice of the PDP in the person of Atiku Abubakar, the ruling party would lose the 2023 presidential bout. And then, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu won.   Now, the narrative has changed to the need for a Muslim-Muslim blend to give force to the ticket. Are you playing? So, if Tinubu pairs with a Christian northerner, APC would lose? Lies! Why make the Christian Northerners less important in their home?   The governors are just too afraid to be…

Malabu: Nigeria loses $1.7 billion JP Morgan case

Nigeria on Tuesday lost its $1.7 billion claim against JP Morgan Chase Bank over the transfer of proceeds from the sale of OPL 245 in the controversial Malabu oil deal.   Judge Sara Cockerill ruled Tuesday that the Nigerian government couldn’t show that it had been defrauded in the case.   In the suit, Nigeria is claiming more than $1.7 billion for the bank’s role in the controversial deal. APC loses two Senators to opposition party, PDP … As Abaribe set to resign as Minority Leader Wednesday

Two prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senate Majority Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Adamu Aliero, have officially defected to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). Also to defect formally tomorrow, Wednesday, is the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, whose defection to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and exit as Minority Leader was deferred as a result of the inability of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to come with his defection and resignation letter to plenary. Although an announcement to that effect was made by Senate President Lawan, it…

Nigeria’s ICT Industry Growing in Leaps and Bounds, says Pantami ….. As active mobile lines cross 200 million mark ….. Broadband penetration hits 42.79%

The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has told the global digital community that Nigeria has been witnessing phenomenal growth in its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, thus enabling socio-economic development in Nigeria and across the African continent.   Pantami stated this at a tea break hosted by Nigeria on the sideline of the 2022 International Telecommunication Union’s World Telecommunications Development Conference (ITU-WTDC) which started in Kigali Rwanda on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. The tea break was attended by senior officials of the…

THE REAL REASON APC NORTH WANT MUSLIM-MUSLIM TICKET By Law Mefor

It was Mallam Nasir El Rufai who once observed that the real problem with Nigeria is impunity, not corruption. Of course, he was right that the brazen corruption and primitive accumulation rocking the nation today, which require psychiatric evaluation, is borne out of impunity and callous disregard for civilised conduct and integrity.   What is more, the said impunity is breeding and transmogrifying into other worse conditions in Nigeria, and one of them is trampling on the religious rights of Nigerians, manifest in the idea of the Muslim-Muslim ticket, which…

With a northern Christian, Tinubu can win election! By Haruspice

So, as a northern Muslim, before you vote for a candidate, he must be a Muslim? I don’t understand! When has being a Muslim become a criterion for good governance? Being religious does not equal credible leadership; it only oils your relationship with the Almighty God and not necessarily a determinant of your political or economic decision. If you love Asiwaju Tinubu, your love should be enough to be blind to other assumed shortcomings- be more Islamic by being fair to other feelings, that is the creed upon which Islam…
