The Northern Senators Forum (NSF)has condemned in a very strong terms the spate of military intervention in the democratic space in West African sub-region, especially the coup recently occured in Niger Republic.
The Northern Senators stated this in a Communique issued in Abuja on Tuesday at National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The NSF called on the military junta in Niger Republic to soften the relationship with the rest of ECOWAS Community by setting free deposed President Mohammed Bazoum and his immediate family to freely choose the country of his choice to live.
The forum further urged the junta in Niger to bring about a transition timetable that will last not more than two (2) years period.
The NSF also urged the ECOWAS to lift restrictions on Niger Republic in the interest of business and border communities.
I”t is important that Nigerien should not suffer because of the coup that took place just as we have seen in Gaza.
“We urge the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces and of course the Chairman of ECOWAS, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu to as a matter of humanitarian gesture, restore electricity supply to Niger Republic in line with the Nigeria-Niger treaty mandate.
“We therefore call on the attention of Nigerien that we remain brothers, partners, Africans and above all, we remain human beings”the Communique stated.
