The Nigerian Senate has summoned Ahmed Isah, popularly known as the “Ordinary President” and host of Brekete Family, following a controversial broadcast involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Isah revealed the summons during his live program on Monday, February 24, 2025, stating that he is expected to appear before the Senate by February 27.
The summons is linked to a recent episode of Brekete Family, where Isah facilitated a live conversation between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Akpabio. While Akpoti-Uduaghan used the platform to air grievances over her alleged victimization and the unauthorized relocation of her Senate seat, Akpabio declined multiple calls to respond.
She accused the Senate leadership of high-handedness and suppressing opposition voices.
Reacting to the development, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani criticized the Senate’s decision, calling it “unnecessary and demeaning.” He argued that summoning Isah could be seen as an attempt to intimidate journalists and media personalities who provide platforms for public discourse.
Brekete Family, a widely followed human rights radio and TV show based in Abuja, is known for advocating for ordinary Nigerians facing social injustices, unpaid salaries, and human rights abuses.
Ahmed Isah has built a reputation for using his platform to pressure authorities into addressing grievances, making him a trusted figure among the public.
With the Senate summons now in motion, the case is drawing national attention, raising questions about press freedom and the role of media in holding public officials accountable.
