The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure a sweeping victory in Abia State during the 2027 general elections, including the governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly seats.
Kalu made the declaration on Saturday in Abuja when APC stakeholders from Abia State formally presented him with Expression of Interest and Governorship Nomination Forms, urging him to contest the state’s top office.
Responding to the call, the Deputy Speaker assured party faithful of total victory, stressed that growing interest in the APC across all elective positions signals increasing public confidence in the party.
“We will not allow this dream to die. We will fight till the end. We will win the House of Assembly positions, the House of Representatives, sweep the Senate seats, and win the governorship,” Kalu said.
He, however, emphasized that his immediate priority remained delivering strong electoral support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“The most important thing for me is to ensure that the President’s reforms and legacies are visibly supported by our people in the South East, starting from Abia State. Every other thing is secondary,” he added.
Earlier, stakeholders from the three senatorial districts of Abia State Abia North, Central, and South praised Kalu’s leadership and legislative performance, urging him to replicate his achievements at the state level.
Speaking on behalf of Abia North, Chief James Uko Igwe (SAN) described Kalu as a statesman whose developmental strides and constituency projects have made a significant impact, insisting that “there is no better time” for him to run for governor.
Also speaking, Major General Jack Nwaogbu (retd.), representing Abia Central, credited Kalu with revitalizing the APC in the state, noting that his leadership has reunited party members and repositioned it for electoral success.
For Abia South, former lawmaker Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike said Kalu’s track record in job creation, empowerment, and attracting federal opportunities makes him the ideal candidate to lead the party into the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders maintained that a strong candidate like Kalu would not only boost the APC’s chances in Abia but also help deliver substantial votes for President Tinubu in the region.
The event highlights growing political momentum within the APC in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with increasing pressure on Kalu to formally declare his governorship ambition.
