The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria has suspended its strike on Wednesday.
The union is set to commence work on Monday.
JUSUN had on April 6, ordered its members across the federation to shut all courts in the country to press home its demand for implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary.
A source at the Supreme Court confirmed to Vanguard on Wednesday that JUSUN’s decision to suspend the strike action was due to the intervention of both Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad and the National Judicial Council, NJC.
JUSUN said the strike was a protest against the denial of the judiciary its constitutionally guaranteed financial autonomy which was also affirmed by a Federal High Court judgement in January 2014.
Part of the effects of the strike is that suspects who ordinarily should not spend more than 48 hours in custody are being detained indefinitely.
