The Former Governor of Anambra state and Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has been voted as ‘2022 Outstanding Political Personality of the Year by Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora.
Mr. Peter Obi emerged first place following his online nomination and voting by members of the general public as monitored and confirmed by the Nigeria Service Awards panel of jury which lasted from 14th to 31th August, 2022.
Consequently, this prestigious Award will be presented by the COA Media Group, organizers of the 2022 Nigeria Service Awards at a ceremony slated for 18th November, 2022 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Mr. Peter Obi is an astute Nigerian businessman and politician who served as Governor of Anambra State between 2007 and 2014 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). His political career got a boost after decamping to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Then in 2019, he was picked as the vice presidential candidate for the party on the same ticket with the presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the presidential elections.
Born in Onitsha in 1961, Obi graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1984. After which he went into business and later banking, where he eventually rose to hold several high-ranking executive positions within the banking sector. By the early 2000s, Obi was the chairman of Fidelity Bank Plc. before leaving the position for politics.
In May 2022, Mr. Obi became the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the upcoming 2023 general elections, after defecting from the PDP. Obi’s presidential campaign has been notably described as a movement due to its massive support from many young Nigerians, who have been nicknamed “Obi-dients”.
