The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated Nigerian children on the occasion of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, urged them to shun drug abuse, cultism and other social vices capable of destroying their future.
Akpabio, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, described children as special gifts from God who must be protected, nurtured and given the opportunity to thrive.
He said Children’s Day served as a reminder of the need to nurture the dreams of young people, protect their innocence and build a brighter future for the next generation.
The Senate President assured Nigerian children that the 10th Senate remained committed to policies and programmes that would safeguard their rights and create opportunities for their growth and development.
“On behalf of my family, constituents, the 10th Senate and the entire National Assembly, I assure you that we are bold and intentional about your development and opportunities,” he said.
Akpabio stressed that education, healthcare and the safety of children would continue to receive priority attention in the legislative agenda of the National Assembly.
He advised children across the country to remain focused and determined in pursuing their dreams, while avoiding negative influences capable of derailing their aspirations.
“To every Nigerian child, I say: shun drugs and all vices that can derail your dreams. Dream big, work hard, and never give up on your aspirations,” he stated.
The Senate President further encouraged children to believe in themselves and embrace their individuality, noting that they possess enormous potential to achieve greatness and contribute meaningfully to national development.
According to him, the future of Nigeria rests in the hands of the younger generation, urging them to seize opportunities, learn from every experience and strive to make positive impacts in society.
Akpabio also reaffirmed the commitment of the Senate to supporting Nigerian children and creating an environment where they can flourish and achieve their full potential.
He wished children across the country joy, happiness and a fulfilling future as they celebrate the 2026 Children’s Day.
