The Nigerian Navy has dismissed what it described as false and misleading claims circulating over the death of a female rating allegedly linked to the actions of a female lieutenant commander.
In a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, while assuring the public of its commitment to professionalism, integrity and respect for human dignity.
According to the statement, the Navy acknowledged the public interest generated by the incident but cautioned against speculation and the spread of unverified information.
“The Nigerian Navy has noted with concern the circulation of false and misleading claims regarding the unfortunate death of a female rating, allegedly linked to the actions of a female lieutenant commander,” the statement read.
The Navy further stated that the established facts surrounding the incident and the underlying cause of death would be communicated to the family, while respecting the confidential nature of medical matters.
It also urged members of the public to allow the bereaved family to grieve in peace and refrain from spreading unconfirmed reports.
