The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency has described Nigerian children as the foundation of the country’s future, urged them to embrace patriotism, discipline, learning and good moral values as the nation marked the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
The position of the Director-General was conveyed in a statement issued by Paul Odenyi, Deputy Director, Communications and Media at the National Orientation Agency, to commemorate the annual celebration.
In the statement, the NOA Director-General congratulated children across the country, describing them as the hope, strength and future of Nigeria. He called on young Nigerians to remain committed to education, integrity and national unity as they prepare for future leadership responsibilities.
The DG stated that Children’s Day serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility of government, parents, teachers, religious bodies and the wider society to safeguard the rights and welfare of every child.
According to him, the nation’s future depends largely on the quality of values, education and opportunities made available to children today.
“The future of our nation depends greatly on the values, education and opportunities we provide for our children today. Every child deserves access to quality education, safety, healthcare, guidance and a conducive environment to grow into responsible citizens,” he said.
The NOA boss also warned children against negative social influences, including crime, drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime and violence, urging them instead to pursue hard work, creativity and responsible citizenship.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility, national consciousness and positive values through continuous public enlightenment campaigns targeted at schools and communities nationwide.
The Director-General further commended parents, teachers, caregivers and development partners for their sacrifices in nurturing children despite prevailing socio-economic challenges.
“As we celebrate our children today, let us all renew our commitment to building a Nigeria where every child can dream, thrive and succeed regardless of background, ethnicity or religion,” the statement added.
