The Federal Road Safety Corps has recorded a major success in its collaboration with the Dangote Group, following a 56 percent reduction in crashes involving Dangote trucks across the country.
The improvement followed a Safety System Gap Analysis conducted by the FRSC on Dangote Cement Transport operations in September 2025, which identified several operational weaknesses affecting fleet safety.
Speaking during an appreciation visit to the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, the Head of Transport, Dangote Group, Mr. Murillo Silva, commended the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, for what he described as professional and strategic interventions that have transformed the company’s transport safety operations.
Silva said the partnership between FRSC and Dangote Group reflected a shared commitment to safer roads and responsible transport management, adding that the reforms introduced after the analysis are already yielding measurable results.
According to him, the intervention has repositioned the Dangote fleet as a potential model for fleet management and road safety compliance across Africa.
The earlier FRSC findings had revealed critical lapses within the company’s transport operations, including violations of speed limiter regulations, poor driver rest management, overloading, weak safety monitoring systems and increased crash exposure largely linked to human factors.
However, after implementing the recommendations made by the FRSC, comparative crash statistics between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 showed significant improvements.
Data presented during the review indicated that crashes reduced from 25 cases in Q1 2025 to 11 cases in Q1 2026, representing a 56 percent decline.
Fatal crashes also dropped by 36 percent, while the number of injured persons decreased from 89 to 42, amounting to a 52 percent reduction.
Most notably, deaths resulting from crashes declined by 60 percent, dropping from 35 recorded fatalities in 2025 to 14 in 2026.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal described the outcome as proof that strategic partnerships, data-driven interventions and institutional collaboration remain essential in improving road safety and saving lives.
He further commended Dangote management for embracing professional scrutiny and implementing critical safety reforms, noting that sustained compliance with the recommendations could position the company among the safest fleet operators on the continent.
The FRSC boss also urged other transport companies and fleet operators to adopt proactive safety measures aimed at reducing crashes and improving operational standards on Nigerian roads.
