Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Rivers State election after a decisive victory at the party’s primaries held today.
Announcing the result, the Chairman of the APC Gubernatorial and House of Assembly Primaries Committee, Rt. Hon. Laori Kwamoti, declared that Chinda secured a total of 268,497 valid votes, meeting all constitutional and party requirements to clinch the ticket.
According to the party, Chinda ran unopposed after other aspirants either withdrew from the race or stepped down in his favour, paving the way for a consensus-style primary outcome.
In a statement released by his Press Secretary, Ekesunnie Caleb, the candidate expressed appreciation to party members and stakeholders for their support and confidence in his leadership.
Chinda, who cast his vote earlier in the day at his Elelenwo hometown in Rivers State, was reportedly received by a large turnout of party faithful who endorsed his candidacy.
He pledged to run a government anchored on the fear of God, accountability, and respect for the rule of law, while promising an inclusive administration.
“It is going to be a teamwork. My theme has always been ‘I win, you win.’ The party is going to sit down and chart the course and process moving forward,” he said.
The APC, All Progressives Congress, described the exercise as successful and in line with its internal democratic procedures, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its electoral chances in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
