President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), following the completion of the tenure of outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term ends on July 31, 2026.
According to a State House press release issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional efficiency and digital transformation within Nigeria’s education and examination system.
Professor Aina, a Computer Engineering scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is widely regarded as a systems expert with deep experience in examination technology, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reform. He is expected to assume office upon the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede.
The incoming Registrar began his professional engagement with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board during his National Youth Service, an experience that shaped his long-standing involvement in examination systems and data-driven reforms.
Aina holds degrees in Computer Systems Engineering, Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from leading UK institutions. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Over the years, he has consulted for several examination and education bodies, including NECO and NABTEB, advising on ICT integration, examination integrity, and operational efficiency.
At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Professor Aina will build on the achievements of his predecessor and further modernize the nation’s admissions and examination processes.
