On December 8, 2024, the Foursquare Gospel Church, Wuse District Headquarters in Abuja, was a sanctuary of harmony and worship as it celebrated a special Christmas Carol service.

This event, a cornerstone in the church’s festive calendar, was marked by an array of musical performances and a profound sermon that uplifted the congregational spirit.

A Symphony of Voices: Carol Exaltation

The service was a vibrant mosaic of melodies as various choirs, including the Church Senior Choir, Teens Choir, Hausa Choir, and Children’s Choir, graced the congregation with Christmas hymns that echoed with the joy of the season.

The repertoire included cherished classics such as “Joy to the World,” “Angels from the Realms of Glory,” “Come Let Us Adore Him,” “Silent Night, Holy Night,” “The First Noel,” and “O Holy Night.” Each song invoked a powerful sense of communal worship, transcending the boundaries of the sanctuary and touching the hearts of all present.

A special segment of the service featured a beautiful rendition by Sister Grace Idachaba, who articulated “Understanding Jesus: From Genesis to Revelation,” offering an insightful journey through biblical narratives that highlight the divinity and purpose of Christ.

Scriptural Reflections and Engaging Sermon

The liturgical readings included a profound passage from Luke 2: 1-20, setting a poignant reminder of the nativity story and the heavenly peace heralded by Christ’s birth. At the heart of the service was an invigorating sermon delivered by Rev. Mrs. Olusola Idowu. Centered around the theme “Emmanuel: Living in the Light of God’s Presence, Favour, and Power,” the sermon drew from Matthew 1:23 and Isaiah 7:14, emphasizing the significance of God with us, as encapsulated by the name Emmanuel.

Rev. Mrs. Idowu passionately conveyed the message that Christ came to save the world, exploring the depth of Emmanuel as God with us, for us, and within us, underlined by contextual scriptures like Romans 8:31, Colossians 1:27, and 1 John 4:4. Her message reverberating with a call for deeper relationships with Jesus, encouraging the congregation to share the joyous news and live reflectively in God’s light.

A Heartfelt Conclusion

The service concluded with special prayers designed to strengthen the spiritual journey of attendees. These prayers called for divine cooperation with personal destiny, the reversal of negative life impacts, and standing in the glory and honour of the Lord’s name. Each prayer encapsulated a desire for divine intervention and was met with heartfelt agreement from the congregation.

1. A prayer for divine forces to align with one’s destiny.
