The election petition Tribunal sitting in Markudi has sacked Emmanuel Udende of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned Gabriel Suswam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Benue North East election.
The National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Udende the winner of the senatorial district election conducted on February 25, 2023.
According to INEC, Udende got 141,405 votes, while Suswam pulled 107,303 votes.
Suswam then headed to the Tribunal with the claim that the election was marred by irregularities.
The court in a judgment today, Friday, September 8, 2023, ruled in favour of the petitioner. However, counsel to sacked APC Senator, Innocent Daagba said they were not satisfied with the decision and will advise his client, Emmanuel Udende to appeal.
