COVID-19: Ganduje sets up conditions for observing Eld fitr prayer in Kan
Kano state Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has hosted a meeting with Imams, Clerics in the state,said the meeting was aimed to rub minds on the Islamic jurisprudence governing any kind of worshipping during a trying time like this of Covid-19 pandemic.
Part of the conditions enunciated to the juma’at Imams was that, Old aged and highly sick persons should not attend the eid ground, People should stay in their Towns to perform their eid prayer, No body would be allowed to enter into the mosques without facemask, ensuring social distancing, hands washing, wearing of facemask, using hand sanitizer and other lot’s of preventive measures against the spread of Covid-19 as stipulated by health professionals.
Governor Ganduje reiterated that, it is a responsibility upon his government to protect lives of the citizens, called on the Islamic clerics and imams to respect what was preached by health officials and noted that Government was aware of the hardship associated with the lockdown situation hence, it approved some hours from 10am to 2pm of every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for people to come out and buy food stuff and other essential items for livelihood as Muslims can also perform juma’at prayer and church services for the Christians on Sunday.
On his part, the Chief Imam of Kano Professor Sani Zahraddeen called on all Imams and clergies to considered all advises that has been given by health experts, citing that,it has been enshrined in Islam that, you should ask those people of knowledge about any issue that you don’t know.
Also speaking during the occasion, the special adviser to minister of health Professor Abdussalam Nasidi, urged the Ulamas to continue to pray during their congregational prayer and ask their followers to-do same.
He then emphasized the need for people to conduct their prayers in accordance with the social distancing and all other suggestions as given by health experts.
Present at the meeting held at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House were the Deputy Governor Nasir Gawuna who is also the chairman of the state Task Force on Covid-19, Government officials, health professionals, representatives of the Christians associations and Imams of the Juma’at Mosques invited from the 44 local government areas of the state
