The Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT command, CP Sadiq Idris Abubakar has pledged his unalloyed dedication of and that of the command’s personnel to ensuring that the impact of the policies and operational directives of the AIG in charge of Zone 7, and by extension the IGP Usman Alkali Baba, is vigorously pursued within the Command for the achievement of the policing mandate of the Nigeria Police Force.
CP Sadiq Idris Abubakar stated this in his welcome address delivered when the AIG in- charge of Zone 7, AIG. Kayode Egbetokun visited the FCT police command,on Wednesday 10th January, 2023. AIG Kayode Egbetokun was on a familiarization tour to the command.
His address read in part;
“It is my pleasure to welcome the AIG. Zone 7, AIG Kayode Egbetokun to the FCT Police Command on your familiarization visit to the Command. The FCT being the seat of the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stretches across a land mass bordering Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Kaduna states, with an increasing population of over 5 million people. As the AIG. is aware, the FCT Command comprises six (6) Area Commands, forty-five (45) divisional headquarters, and several Out stations/Outposts.
“Upon my assumption of office as the 29th Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, I assured the residents of FCT of a new dispensation of professional policing and improved public safety and security aimed at ensuring accessibility to policing services in order to restore and boost the confidence of members of the public. This has been a fundamental focus of the current administration of the Zonal Command headed by your humble self, and which has informed the contemporary trend of policing being witnessed in the FCT.
“In compliance with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, the FCT Command has been able to develop and implement operational policies and strategies targeted at combatting crimes and criminality as is evident in our modest achievement which includes the arrest of 18 armed robbers and recovery of One Thousand One Hundred and Fifty Nine (1159) exhibits including arms and ammunition of various caliber, motor vehicles and motorcycles, illicit drugs and other harmful weapons. Equally, 24 kidnapped victims have been rescued and reunited with their families.
“The FCT Command under my leadership is committed to ensuring that the policing ideals of the Inspector-General of Police which has been effectively canvassed by the AIG in charge of Zone 7 are clearly and without doubt exemplified in the Command. Similarly, one of the foremost mandate of the Command is to deliberately entrench modern policing standards, particularly respect for the Rule of Law and the Fundamental Rights of all citizens”.
