FG Debunks Viral Report on Suspension of National Scholarship, Dissolution of Scholarship Board

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as fake a viral press release claiming that the National Award Scholarship had been suspended indefinitely and that the Federal Scholarship Board had been dissolved.

The purported statement, dated May 29, 2026, alleged that the ministry took the decision due to financial constraints, unpaid scholarship obligations and alleged misappropriation of funds within the scholarship scheme.

The fake release, which carried the name of the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, also claimed that scholarship payments were under review with no immediate timeline for disbursement and that the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme had earlier been discontinued.

The Federal Ministry of Education urged members of the public, students, beneficiaries and stakeholders to disregard the misinformation and rely only on official communication channels for authentic updates on scholarship programmes and policies.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and effective administration of educational support initiatives in line with national education priorities.
