The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through stronger collaboration with the United Nations, development partners and key national stakeholders.
Dr. Doro made the commitment on Monday at the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023–2027 Steering Committee Meeting held at the United Nations House in Abuja. The meeting brought together ministers, senior government officials, the United Nations Country Team in Nigeria, members of the diplomatic community, development partners and other stakeholders to review progress under the cooperation framework and strategise on accelerating the implementation of the SDGs.
According to the minister, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction remains committed to supporting national and global efforts aimed at reducing poverty, strengthening social protection systems and building resilient communities through strategic partnerships and coordinated interventions.
He highlighted the ministry’s flagship One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) as an integrated framework that aligns humanitarian response, social protection and poverty reduction initiatives under a unified national coordination mechanism. He said the initiative brings together governments at all levels, UN agencies, development partners, civil society organisations and the private sector to deliver more effective and accountable interventions.
Dr. Doro also described the National Poverty Intelligence Lab (NPIL) as a key innovation supporting the implementation of OHOPRS, noting that the platform provides real-time, evidence-based data to improve programme targeting, policy formulation and accountability, while enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to tackle multidimensional poverty in line with the SDGs.
The minister commended the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, the United Nations Country Team in Nigeria and development partners for their continued support for Nigeria’s humanitarian and development priorities.
He stressed that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals would require stronger institutional collaboration, innovative financing, technology-driven solutions and sustained partnerships among government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders.
Dr. Doro reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to working with all partners to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda through coordinated humanitarian action, inclusive social protection and sustainable poverty reduction programmes.
He expressed confidence that the resolutions reached at the Steering Committee meeting would strengthen collective efforts towards building a more resilient, inclusive and prosperous Nigeria where no one is left behind.
