Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has pledged his administration’s commitment to ensuring full utilization of the state’s recruitment quota in the Nigerian Army as part of broader efforts to enhance national security and youth empowerment.
Governor Okpebholo, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Gani Audu, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the Chief of Army Staff, currently on a sensitization tour across Niger Delta states.
He stated that the state government would collaborate with the Brigade Commander to establish a sensitization team that will take the awareness campaign to all 18 Local Government Areas in the state.
“The State will work closely with the Brigade Commander to set up a team to take the message to the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State. The team will ensure the state utilizes its full quota in the Nigerian Army,” he said.
Leading the Army delegation, the Director of Supply and Transport Services at Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Wiito Nzidee, who represented the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, explained that the tour was aimed at creating awareness among Nigerian youths on available opportunities in the Army.
Gen. Nzidee revealed that Edo State was underperforming in the ongoing 89 Regular Recruit Intake, with only 194 applicants registered out of the 2,000 slots allocated to each state. In comparison, Kaduna had 2,393 applicants, Adamawa 1,701, Plateau 1,400, and Bauchi 1,136.
Commander of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ebenezer Oduyebo, also part of the delegation, emphasized that the recruitment drive not only contributes to national security but also serves as a means of reducing unemployment in the state.
The Nigerian Army’s recruitment portal for the 89 Regular Recruit Intake is currently open, and citizens are encouraged to apply.
