The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially handed over a massive Abuja estate comprising 753 duplexes and apartments linked to former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to the Federal Government.
The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Abuja. EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, presented the confiscated property to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Located on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09 in the Lokogoma District of the FCT, the estate spans 150,500 square meters and is regarded as the EFCC’s largest single asset recovery since its inception in 2003.
Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had on December 2, 2024, ordered the final forfeiture of the property, ruling that it was acquired with proceeds of unlawful activity. The court’s decision followed a case filed under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006, and Section 44(2)(B) of the 1999 Constitution.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the luxury estate will soon be made available for sale to interested Nigerians, as part of efforts to recover public funds.
