President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, unity and national renewal as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
Akpabio, in a goodwill message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, felicitated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Muslim faithful in Nigeria and around the world on the occasion of the Islamic festival.
The Senate President said Eid-el-Kabir symbolises the virtues of faith, obedience, sacrifice and total submission to the will of God, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
“This sacred occasion reminds us of Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering faith, obedience, and willingness to sacrifice for the sake of Almighty Allah,” Akpabio stated.
He added that the virtues of devotion, selflessness and sacrifice are values Nigeria urgently requires at this critical period of its national development.
Akpabio urged Muslims to use the occasion to extend love and compassion to the less privileged, stressing that such acts reflect the true spirit of Nigeria.
He also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, security and prosperity in the country, especially for troops battling insecurity across different parts of the nation and for farmers to safely return to their fields.
According to him, Nigeria is currently passing through a period of testing that requires patience, tolerance and hope from citizens.
“The sacrifices we make today in patience, in tolerance and in choosing hope over despair will determine the Nigeria our children inherit,” he said.
The Senate President further noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, which is being supported by the National Assembly, is founded on the principle that meaningful progress often demands collective sacrifice.
He prayed for Allah to accept the prayers and sacrifices of the Muslim faithful and to bless Nigeria with healing, unity and progress.
“May Almighty Allah accept your prayers and sacrifices. May He heal our land, guide our leaders, and bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akpabio added.
He concluded the message with “Barka da Sallah” and “Eid Mubarak” to Muslims celebrating the festival.
