The Emir of Kagara, His Royal Highness Malam Ahmed Garba Gunna, has commended the efforts of security agencies and the Niger State Government in restoring peace to the region. He made the remarks during a courtesy visit by participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 18 from the National Institute for Security Studies.
The delegation, made up of senior security officers and policymakers, was in Niger State as part of a study tour themed “Non-State Actors in Security Management: Issues, Challenges and Prospects for Peace and Development in Africa.”
Represented by Alhaji Mohammed Shuhabideen Isah, Tafidan Kagara, the Emir praised the security agencies for their proactive response to banditry and other criminal activities, noting that normalcy has returned to many communities in the area.
“We have witnessed a significant reduction in security threats due to the timely intervention of security forces and the strategic measures adopted by the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago,” the Emir stated.
He also emphasized the role of community members in intelligence gathering and urged continued collaboration with security agencies to sustain peace and stability.
The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, who accompanied the delegation, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to combating insecurity. Represented by Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Makusidi, Permanent Secretary, General Services, he highlighted initiatives such as strengthening local security outfits, improving intelligence sharing, and implementing socio-economic programmes to address the root causes of insecurity.
“The State Government is resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property. Our investments in security infrastructure and community development are key to discouraging criminal activities,” the SSG stated.
Leader of the delegation, Mr. Rafiu Bolarinwa, commended the synergy between traditional institutions, security agencies, and the government, adding that the experience in Niger State would shape their research and policy recommendations.
The Executive Intelligence Management Course is a flagship programme of the National Institute for Security Studies, aimed at enhancing the capacity of senior security professionals and policymakers in tackling complex security issues in Nigeria and across Africa.
