The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has given Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Metro Area Command a two-week deadline to end robbery activities and other security breaches within Abuja city centre.
The directive was disclosed in a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, anipr, mipra, on Friday, June 19, 2026, following a meeting between the Commissioner of Police and the 17 DPOs under the Metro Area Command to review the security situation and strengthen operational strategies against emerging threats.
CP Sanusi expressed concern over incidents of traffic robbery, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, “one chance” robbery menace, motorists driving against traffic, activities of commercial motorcyclists on major roads, vandalisation of public and private property, illegal parking on highways, and traffic congestion.
He directed the DPOs to intensify operations and ensure that the identified challenges are brought to an end within two weeks, warning that failure to comply with the directive would attract consequences.
The FCT Police Commissioner also instructed the Area Commander, Metro, who supervises the DPOs, to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with the order.
CP Sanusi stated that while attention would be focused on restoring security in the city centre, he would personally handle security challenges in the suburbs.
He warned that negligence would not be tolerated, urging officers to remain proactive and committed to safeguarding residents and visitors within the nation’s capital.
