The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has concluded security arrangements and deployed personnel across Ekiti State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The deployment, which covers all 2,545 polling units in the state, also extends to critical infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities, and other strategic locations to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that the Force has adopted a multi-layered security architecture aimed at protecting voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials throughout the exercise.
He said security personnel and operational assets have been strategically positioned to prevent threats and respond swiftly to any security challenges that may arise during the election.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, assured Nigerians that all personnel deployed for election duties have been properly briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement.
The IGP added that officers would perform their duties professionally, impartially, and in line with the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.
The Force warned against electoral offences and actions capable of undermining the integrity of the election, stressing that violators would face the full weight of the law.
Meanwhile, residents of Ekiti State have been urged to report any security concerns through the dedicated election emergency response line, 080062335577, which will remain active throughout the election period.
The Police also called on eligible voters to exercise their civic rights peacefully and cautioned against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.
The NPF reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring a free, fair, credible, and peaceful governorship election in Ekiti State.
