The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-ul-Adha celebration across the country.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the statement, the declaration reflected the Federal Government’s recognition of the religious and cultural significance of Eid-ul-Adha to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the world. The festival is widely observed as a period dedicated to sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
Dr. Ajani conveyed the warm felicitations of the Federal Government to Muslims in Nigeria and the Diaspora, noting that Eid-ul-Adha remained a moment for spiritual reflection, prayer, and renewed commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence.
The Minister urged Nigerians of all faiths to use the festive period to pray for peace, security, and continued progress of the nation as it pursues greater stability and prosperity.
The statement further emphasized the values of brotherhood and harmony, wishing all Muslim faithful a peaceful, blessed, and joyous Eid celebration.
