The Federal Government has unveiled a comprehensive digital literacy training programme designed to enhance the technological skills of federal civil servants. This initiative, a joint effort between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, aims to equip public sector employees with the necessary tools to thrive in a digitally evolving workplace.
The programme was officially launched during a three-day workshop in Abuja, where NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, stressed the pivotal role of human involvement in successful digital transformation. “Digital transformation is a journey, not a destination. It’s about people, not just technology. Technology can only enhance lives when we, the people, create policies and deliver services effectively,” Inuwa stated.
NITDA has set an ambitious goal of achieving 70% digital literacy by 2027 through its “Digital Literacy for All” (DL4ALL) initiative. This initiative involves integrating digital literacy into the national education curriculum and training teachers across various educational institutions.
NITDA also plan to leverage the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to train millions of Nigerians annually on digital skills, preparing the workforce for a future where digital competency is essential.
Representing the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Fatima Sugra Tabi’a Mahmood, Permanent Secretary of the Career Management Office, emphasized the importance of this training in transforming the civil service into a dynamic, technology-driven entity.
“This workshop is more than a training exercise; it’s a critical step towards shaping a future-ready public service. By gaining cutting-edge digital skills, civil servants will be better equipped to deliver their mandates effectively,” she remarked.
The partnership between NITDA and the Office of the Head of Civil Service underscored the importance of collaboration in driving digital transformation within the public sector. The initiative is expected to foster a more efficient and globally competitive civil service, enhancing the delivery of public services and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.
