The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday hosted young female tech innovators at the State House Banquet Hall during a dinner marking the celebration of National Girls in ICT Day, in a renewed demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to digital inclusion for girls.
The event featured the presentation and recognition of awards and certificates to outstanding participants who recently completed an intensive technology training programme organised under initiatives of the National Information Technology Development Agency in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, commended the creativity, resilience, and innovation displayed by the young participants, describing their projects as practical solutions with the potential to address real-life challenges and create economic opportunities.
He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu placed strong emphasis on economic diversification and inclusive development, stressing that empowering young Nigerians especially girls with digital literacy and ICT skills is critical to building a competitive and future-ready economy.
According to him, the innovations presented by the participants go beyond academic exercises, reflecting scalable ideas capable of driving entrepreneurship, job creation, and national development if properly supported.
Inuwa further urged the young innovators to continue refining their ideas and to embrace technology as a tool for national transformation. He assured that NITDA would continue to provide mentorship, technical guidance, and institutional support to help convert their innovations into sustainable ventures.
The event concluded with renewed commitments from stakeholders to expand opportunities for girls in STEM fields, as Nigeria intensifies efforts to deepen digital inclusion and bridge the gender gap in technology.
