The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Housing Authority, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, has reaffirmed the Authority’s readiness to commence large-scale construction of the Renewed Hope Housing Estates across Nigeria, beginning with Abia State.
Speaking on Tuesday, April 11, 2024, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Umuahia, Abia State, Ojo said the initiative reflects FHA’s commitment to delivering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme nationwide.
He noted that the decision to flag off the project in the South-East, particularly Abia State, was deliberate, citing the enthusiasm and cooperation demonstrated by the state government and people.
According to him, “On assumption of office, the President mandated us to provide livable and affordable housing for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope initiative. The mandate is clear, non-partisan, and for all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation.”
Ojo revealed that FHA had engaged 28 states in search of land for the programme, adding that Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, responded positively by allocating 100 hectares of land to the Authority on May 9, 2024.
He explained that preliminary groundwork had been completed in several states, including Akwa Ibom and Kaduna, but stressed that the Authority undertook additional checks to ensure seamless project execution and avoid abandonment of projects.
“Situational contingencies made us double-check before commencing, so we can avoid disruptions once work begins, in line with the President’s directive that abandoned projects must become a thing of the past,” he said.
The FHA boss assured that the project would not only deliver housing units but also provide supporting infrastructure that ensures livable and functional communities.
He called on host communities to cooperate fully with the Authority to ensure successful delivery of the estate.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Groundbreaking Committee and Executive Director, Estate Services, Arc. Ezekiel Nya Etok, commended Governor Otti for his commitment to development and expressed appreciation for hosting the FHA project in Abia State.
Also speaking, the General Manager, Partnership, Arc. Peter Okpanachi, disclosed that the estate would comprise about 12,000 housing units, including bungalows, terraces, block of flats, and detached duplexes to cater to all income categories.
He added that the project would be implemented through multiple delivery models, including direct construction, partnerships, and site-and-service schemes.
In his remarks, Governor Alex Otti thanked the FHA management team for their collaboration with Abia State, describing Hon. Ojo as an upright and dedicated public servant.
The governor urged Nigerians to prioritize development over political and religious divisions, noting that such factors often hinder progress.
The Renewed Hope Housing initiative is part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to expand access to affordable housing and improve living standards across Nigeria.
