In a move to enhance academic leadership and institutional growth, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the appointment of Professor Sulaiman Mohammed Hadi as the new Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai.
Professor Hadi, who previously served in the Department of Veterinary Anatomy at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was selected after a rigorous screening process conducted by the university’s Governing Council. His appointment takes effect from Monday, February 17, 2025, for a single term of five years.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, who emphasized that Professor Hadi’s appointment was based on merit, proven academic credentials, and administrative competence.
“By virtue of your high-level engagements in the academia, we have no doubt you will bring your wealth of experience and leadership skills to bear in the discharge of your responsibilities,” the SSG stated.
He further stressed that the new Vice Chancellor is expected to implement policies that will position IBB University as a center for affordable quality education and innovative research, attracting scholars and fostering academic excellence.
Professor Hadi’s appointment followed the suspension of the former Vice Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, in October 2024, over allegations of insubordination and disobedience to constituted authority. In the interim, Professor Hassan Ibrahim served as the Acting Vice Chancellor.
The Niger State Government expressed confidence that under Professor Hadi’s leadership, IBBU Lapai will continue to thrive as a globally recognized institution of learning and research.
