Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a collaborative relationship with the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), ensuring a conducive environment for its operations.
Governor Okpebholo gave this assurance when he received the NULGE National President, Ambali Akeem Olatunji, and his executive members at the Government House in Benin City. The visit was aimed at introducing the newly elected Chairman of the Edo State chapter, Comrade Scot Aigbovia.
Expressing concern over recent leadership disputes within the state chapter of NULGE, the Governor commended the national leadership for resolving the issue.
“The activities of your union in the last few days have been a burden to my heart because the union held an election in Edo State, and two people were claiming to be winners. I requested that you personally come to clarify the leadership issue, and now you have identified Comrade Scot Aigbovia as the duly elected chairman. As a government, we will recognize him and work with the union in the state,” Okpebholo stated.
NULGE President Ambali Akeem Olatunji congratulated Governor Okpebholo on his electoral victory and lauded his administration for creating an enabling environment for the union’s activities. He highlighted that attempts to conduct the NULGE election under the previous administration were unsuccessful due to security concerns.
“We are happy today that what couldn’t be achieved in the last administration has been seamlessly achieved by your government. This demonstrates the true tenets of democracy,” Ambali noted.
In his remarks, Comrade Aigbovia acknowledged the Governor’s role in restoring peace to the Edo State NULGE chapter and pledged the union’s support for the government’s developmental agenda.
“NULGE is one in Edo State, and peace has come to stay. We will do our best to support the administration in ensuring the state remains peaceful and continues to develop,” he assured.
The meeting solidified the state government’s recognition of Comrade Aigbovia’s leadership and reaffirmed a commitment to strengthening industrial harmony in Edo State.
