Gov Okpebholo begins major repairs on Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi Highway

In a swift move to fulfill his campaign promises, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commenced extensive repairs on several failed sections of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway. This initiative aimed to alleviate the longstanding travel difficulties faced by commuters along this vital route connecting Edo South, Edo Central, and Edo North Senatorial Districts.

The highway, notorious for its poor condition, has been a source of frustration for residents and travelers, often causing delays and damage to vehicles. Governor Okpebholo’s administration has swiftly mobilized resources to address these challenges, reflecting his commitment to improving infrastructure across the state.

Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, confirmed the ongoing projects in a statement issued on Thursday, January 9, 2025.

He said key areas under reconstruction included sections near Obadan Junction, Upper Mission Extension by Aduwawa Junction, Temboga Road, and Upper Ekenwan Road. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure that roads are in optimal condition before the onset of the rainy season.

During a recent inspection tour, Governor Okpebholo visited Uromi in Esan North East, where he assessed the progress on a 32-kilometer access road leading to the Federal Science and Technology College. Accompanied by key officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, John Obanor, and Edo State APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, the Governor also inspected other roads in the area, such as Onewa Primary School Road by Utako Junction.

Residents expressed their gratitude for the government’s intervention, noting that many of these roads had been neglected for years. The Governor’s proactive approach has been widely praised, signaling a new era of infrastructure development in Edo State.

The repairs on the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway underscored Governor Okpebholo’s resolve to enhance the state’s transportation network, despite financial constraints. His administration’s efforts are poised to significantly improve the quality of life for Edo residents and boost economic activities in the region.
