Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering peace, security, and unity while honoring the sacrifices of the nation’s armed forces.
During the launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, Governor Okpebholo, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor, announced a N10 million donation to support the initiative.
The event, attended by members of the Nigeria Legion, ex-service personnel, families of fallen heroes, security officials, and government functionaries, underscored the importance of recognizing the courage and sacrifices of military personnel who defended Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity.
In his speech, Governor Okpebholo said:”This is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by gallant men and women who stood as a defensive wall for our nation’s unity. We must continue to build a society of peace, security, and unity, worthy of their sacrifices.”
The Governor also urged citizens to contribute towards the care and rehabilitation of veterans and the families of fallen heroes, highlighting the emblem as a symbol of collective gratitude and solidarity.
He added,”Despite our challenges, we will continue to support our Armed Forces, who ensure we sleep with both eyes closed. Let us wear this emblem with pride and honor their legacy.”
Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Mr. Ignatius Enabulele, commended the bravery of the armed forces and called for unity among citizens to avoid actions that could ignite violence or chaos.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities will culminate in a grand celebration on January 15, 2025.
